I had a great time

I had a great time in Chicago. Got to see my friends, got a little shopping in, ate at some new restaurants. I've come to the conclusion that I simply must visit more often. There were so many things I wanted to do and see, but I didn't have the time.

There was a little incident on NYE. As everyone was filing out of the bar around 2 a.m. and getting their coats from the coat check, some of the party-goers had lost their coat check tickets. People's tempers were high (aided by drunkenness). I had been sucking down waters for at least 2 hours, so I got to view the goings-on with much more clarity than the rest of the bunch. Some asshole was getting pissed at the bouncers (who were simply just doing their jobs).

Bouncer: Please just exit the bar or stand to the side and we will get your coat for you. (Bouncer gently touches asshole's shoulder).

Asshole: I'll kick your nig#er ass.

Bouncer: (Totally holding his cool). Please get out of my face.

All of our jaws just dropped open. My guy friends told the bouncer he should have knocked his lights out. The worst part is that after walking down the block, everyone was trying to find cabs. We overheard the asshole saying that calling the bouncer that name was the "most gratifying thing" he had done all day.

Maybe I am naive, but I just can't believe people like that are still walking around with their teeth in tact. The incident was the topic of discussion for the rest of the night and part of yesterday. We were just in awe.
