I Don't Make This Stuff Up, Folks!

Lead story from my hometown's newspaper:

What appears to be a drunken tractor ride through the southern part of the county ended in an arrest early Sunday morning.

Matthew Wayne West, 22, 233 S. 13th St., was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a accident, and auto theft. He has a prior drunken driving conviction.

Wonder if his other arrest was also a PUI--plowing under the influence.

You Said

Ahhh Vincennes. That town will always hold a special place (albeit dark) in my heart.

About 10 years ago, when I was just starting this current position in Indy, I was driving back and forth between Indy and E'ville every week via I-70/U.S. 41 (you know, the "fastest" route between the two, even though the "new terrain" route is more of a direct line...but I digress). I got busted for speeding going through Vincennes...doesn't matter how fast. The thing was, at this point I had managed to beat something like 8 speeding tickets in a row just by showing up for the court date--the police officer wouldn't show up, the judge would throw it out of court and I was happy as a clam. Well on my Vincennes court date, I was so sure of myself, I went down there without cash and sat waiting in the courtroom. When they called my name, the cop walked in. My heart sank right there. What could I do? I was stuck. So I ended up having to pay it, but they don't take credit or checks. So I had to scramble to find an ATM to get the cash I needed to pay the ticket just so I could drive back up to Indy with my tail between my legs.

I'll never forget that. LOL
