Broadway Update

TV talk show host Wayne Brady is joining the cast of the long-running Broadway musical revival "Chicago" as the opportunistic Billy Flynn.

While I think Brady has a great voice, I hope he can get down the suave nature of the character.

You Said

I really don't like Wayne Brady all that much, but I saw him about a two weeks ago on the chappell show, and he was funny as hell.

Well, if Jerry Orbach (the original Flynn) can do it, why not Brady?

B/c I tend to think Orbach can tone himself down better than Brady. But again, I haven't seen Brady in that type of role before.

I don't know, Lawren...I definitely think he could pull it off...I think he is extremely talented...a triple threat.

I just read an interview with Hugh Jackman, who was offered the Billy Flynn role for the movie version of Chicago. He said that, since he was only 30 at the time, he didn't think he would be able to portray the character as wizened and jaded as it should have been, so he passed. Why would Brady (31) be any better? He's a heck of a singer and dancer, but that role is for an older dude. Some shows just require certain types of actors in certain parts. It's not a criticism....
