Fashion Icon

Audrey Hepburn. Lauren Bacall. Diana Vreeland. And now, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Last night, she was crowned a "fashion icon" by Council of Fashion Designers of America -- a rarely awarded honor that was bestowed during the gala event known as the Fashion Oscars.

I think this award is well-deserving. SJP took her character's own flamboyant style and meshed it together with her own. Time and again, she's shown her fashion know-how, versatility, and creativity.

You Said

She does deserve the award - - she has inspired many of us to wear what we want when we want and to make fashion out of vintage and to use accessories at will.

I'm happy for her :)

Great company, even though she has a long way to go to reach the caliber of Audrey Hepburn. I don't think you could count on both hands the number of trends she started.

I like that this is given only rarely, makes the award much more special.

I will probably have my gay credentials revoked, but I don't know who Diana Vreeland is. Anyone?

It's OK, Chuck. She was fashion editor at Harpers Bazaar for twenty-five years and then Editor in Chief of Vogue. She died in 1989 I think.

ooooh have to disagree with you here Lawren. I don't think she knows how to dress. Once in a great while she will wear something decent. Most of the time when I see her I ask "who dresses you in the morning?"

Says: Lori at June 9, 2004 03:16 AM

Well, in real life, SJP is a snappy dresser, but her SitC character was a train wreck. Woman seem to idolize her fashion choices because they were risque and crazy. But let me tell you, guys just went "what the hell is she wearing? A bird on a huge hat with a neon pink dress and polkadotted orange scarf?? Uh, ok."

take a look at any episode of "Square Pegs" and tell mem SJP is a fashion icon.
