Kanye's Bitter

Kanye West has a beef with Dick Clark. West won three Grammys on Sunday, including best rap album for "The College Dropout." But he lost the new artist trophy to Maroon 5, the same award he lost to country singer Gretchen Wilson at the Clark-produced American Music Awards in November. West complained bitterly about that defeat, but later apologized to Wilson. He also lost in his other two AMA categories.

Backstage Sunday, the Chicago rapper was still ticked off. "I do not apologize to Dick Clark or the AMAs because you should not have had me perform and have me nominated for so many awards but not have an award," he said. "I'm one of those guys that's like all new artists, `Oh, I just believe that everything is on the up-and-up' and now I see with some of those other awards shows that it's not."

West was the most nominated Grammy contender with 10 nods. He also won best rap song for "Jesus Walks" and shared best R&B song for writing "You Don't Know My Name" with Alicia Keys and Harold Lilly.

--Way to be a gracious loser, Kanye. Get over yourself.

You Said

okay, i don't know this guy...i have never heard his music...but he has come off as THE BIGGEST *SSHOLE known to mankind. NICE WORK, BUDDY! Jack*ss.

Says: Kelly P. at February 15, 2005 08:55 AM

you have never heard of him? how can you say that if you dont know just what Kanye is?? if a white performer was acting like Kanye..yall would call him JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE or something..a black man who knows he is the ish...knows that he is good: he is an asshole?
If you cant be your own best promoter then who can?
We have been ripped for off and overlooked for so long..Kanye better stand up for his damnself. Black ppl dont need to stay in their place...do ya thing Kanye..Elvis was a man just like any other..did some of the same crap..now everyone see elvis at the local maket! FACE IT FOLKS!! GET OVER IT /end of black history rant lol

Says: Ru at February 15, 2005 03:25 PM

Wow. Umm . . . come again? I am white. I love hip hop music. There, those are my two qualifying statements. That being said, I think Kanye West is a cry-baby. Only one person can win an award, and all nominees are truly deserving. Aside from Leonardo Dicaprio crying about not being nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Titanic" (oh and guess what, he's white, and I think he's a cry-baby too for that episode), it's very childish to complain about not winning an award you are nominated for, yet we see this repeatedly with rappers - recall a certain someone charging the stage a few years ago? I sure do.

Kanye has style and he writes good rhymes. That doesn't give him the right to bitch and complain and accuse Dick Clark of "keeping a brotha down" . . .

END OF FRUSTRATED-WITH-BLACK-HISTORY-RANT-RANT!

Says: Iceman at February 15, 2005 03:43 PM

i do agree that complaining is not showing a person's best side...but the media keeps reporting Kanye..not anyone else like this. so he gets the asshole labels? things will never be equal...hence my whole squaw about it. Call it all around...if it was elton john and billy joel...would we be still talking about this???
i doubt it..hell, it wouldnt even make a byline.

Says: Ru at February 15, 2005 04:10 PM

it's all a big conspiracy...don't you know that all of us white folk just sit around all day and figure out how we can screw over black people?

Says: Shillelagh at February 15, 2005 05:12 PM

Okay, how do you know I am not Black?? I could be Black and just not listen to hip hop music -it is possible!

But, no, Ru, I am not...and that has absolutely nothing to do with it. I just have a huge problem with the "I was nominated a lot so I should automatically win" idea...it just seems completely ridiculous...I don't care if you are red, black, white, or green...it is a selfish, whiny, poor-sport kind of statement to make.

Says: Kelly P. at February 15, 2005 07:04 PM

Well, I was gonna say that Kanye's hot and I really like "Jesus Walks", it's quite clever and a nice change of pace from usual rap topics. But, these observations clearly don't fit with this little back-and-forth y'all got goin' on over here :)

Says: Kelly at February 15, 2005 09:32 PM

kanye showed just what a little bitch he is, but big and rich should have got the new artist award - they're gonna change everything

Says: cowboy at February 22, 2005 10:12 PM

Kanye West is perhaps the second best producer of rap today behind Dr. Dre. Big and Rich are one hit wonders and Maroon 5 is not going to be around as long as Kanye. Kanye complained, but why can't you complain? He felt he was the best and said it. Kanye thought he was just being used for his popularity to bring more viewers to the AMA's because frankly the AMA's are not huge. Kanye West was the best new artist, period.

Says: Ross at May 3, 2005 06:40 PM

It's amazing what people cry about. Jesus Walks could have been a great testament to people, WHITE or BLACK, but instead people will just remember that he continues to play the race card. Pathetic.
