Your Thoughts?

An Illinois legislator wants to enact a law for theaters to disclose two movie start times -- one for previews and such, and one for the actual feature.

What do you guys think about this?

You Said

I'm against it. It will just encourage the late-comers to show up even later and disrupt those who were there on time.

I think that it's a good idea for children's movies because I know that mine get very restless waiting for the film to start. They don't get into the previews. But I agree with Nanc' that it could get very annoying especially with the PG-13 and R movies because too many stragglers would come in at the last minute, yakking loudly and disturbing others.

Locally, they've already started showing the previews about ten minutes before the scheduled movie start time. Once we caught on to that, we had to start coming earlier because we actually enjoy the previews!

They don't list two separate times in the paper, though.

I think it's a bad idea. Just know that you have to sit through previews. It's not that big a deal. People's time is so precious that 10 or 15 minutes of previews demands new legislation? Gimme a break.

Point well taken on the children's movies, though.

Oh geez, just know you have 10 to 15 minutes of previews to get through before the movie starts. Sometimes I count on that when I've made an impulse decision to see a late night movie.

Same here. I don't even stress it anymore when the movie's "starting" and I'm still parking the car. You know you have 10 minutes . . .

I run a small, art house theater and we're always willing to let people know how long our previews are (10 - 12 minutes)but we often get people who show up 30 - 45 minutes into the film. i think posting two times will just confuse people.

The theater-going experience involves previews. I think the complaints (and potential legislation) exist because of the number of comercials and ads that run before the main attraction. I, personally, love the previews, but could lose the ads.

Says: ensie at March 16, 2005 07:40 PM

I am one of those people that actually love previews. So, I don't mind sitting through them.

Says: alexis at March 17, 2005 01:10 PM

I like the previews, but can they make legislation to get rid of the frickin COMMERCIALS?! It is ridiculous that I should pay $8.00 to have to sit through commericals before the previews before the movie.
