"Glitter" Was a Joke
Superstar Mariah Carey can see a positive side to the critical-mauling and poor sales of her Glitter film and soundtrack album - it cheered up Americans following the September 11th attacks.
The semi-autobiographical film was released only a month after the singer's much-publicized breakdown and ten days after the terrorists attacks in New York and Washington DC. Carey tells the New York Post newspaper, "The problem was Glitter was about a diva moment. It was too close to my life. Another thing that people don't remember about Glitter is that it came out the week of 9/11. The movie became a pressure release for everyone dealing the intensity of the attacks. Glitter was the safe joke of the day."
--She's got one thing right: it sure was laughter-worthy.

I can admit this. I have seen this attempt at cinema. Why, you ask? Hey, when you're in bed sick, and you subscribed to HBO, and they only recycle the same damn movie 8 times per day when it's not in-season for their shows, you have few options. I had already seen Sportscenter 5 times, and the Price is Right. Give a guy a break. Plus, since I really love movies, sometimes I like to see the ones that get maligned just to have my own informed opinion. This movie was embarassingly awful.
Says: Iceman at April 12, 2005 10:29 AMI am embarrased for the both of you for having seen this movie. Then again, I once sat through 'House of a Thousand Corpses'.
I actually looked into suing the producers of that muck for the return of my two wasted hours, with interest, but my demonstrable bad movie masochism precluded my cause of action (evidenced by my desire to see Constantine despite its critically-disparaged posture).
