The Passion of the Pope?

Movie star Mel Gibson is reportedly planning to follow his controversial The Passion Of The Christ with a movie about the Pope John Paul II - who died this month aged 84.

The deeply religious actor/director is the member of a strict Catholic sect called the 'Holy Family'. According to Pagesix.Com, Gibson dispatched a film crew to the Vatican City on Friday to capture crowd scenes at the late pontiff's funeral for future use.

Gibson was recently reported to be planning another religious epic - about three children who claimed to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.

The Fatima prophecies are fascinating stuff. A theologian I am not, but what I have read about these (ok, so largely in Tom Robbins and Dan Brown novels, but most of which has been seperately verified) has definitely piqued my interest. The first two prophecies came largely true, but supposedly the Catholic church has suppressed the third because it contains severe criticism of the churh and prognosticates its demise (and the end of the world).
