Awesome

Hip-hop star 50 Cent is boosting his fans' education by offering up 10 scholarships to a New York college.

The rapper, who never pursued a college degree, is awarding the scholarships - together totalling more than $31,000 - to Bayside's Queensborough Community College. Eight students from 50 Cent's alma mater, now called Campus Magnet High Schools, and one student each from nearby Springfield Gardens and Hillcrest High Schools will win the scholarships, being offered through the star's G-Unity Foundation.

Students, who need a grade C average to qualify, have been asked to submit 500-word essays and two teacher recommendations by the June 24th deadline, reports Mtv News.

You Said

See, rappers are sometimes good for their communities!

Absolutely--it's a class act move.

Sounds like a great idea but will 31k split 8 ways go far? I'm not criticizing--just asking.

Says: Nanc' at June 15, 2005 10:26 AM

Depends on the college. Since it's a community college, it may go farther (further?) than one would think. He could certainly give more, but I think it's wonderful despite that.

Based on the school, in this case, yes.
