Sad
Peter Jennings was the face of ABC News.
The suave, Canadian-born broadcaster delivered the news to Americans each night in five separate decades. He was there for every big story, be it war or weather.
Jennings, who announced in April that he had lung cancer, died Sunday at his New York home, ABC News President David Westin said in a statement. He was 67.
"Peter has been our colleague, our friend, and our leader in so many ways," Westin said. "None of us will be the same without him."

I can't believe he'd quit smoking for 17 years and it still got him. Gonna miss him.
Says: Nanc' at August 8, 2005 08:25 AMHard to believe the "Big 3" are all done. Brokaw, Rather, and Jennings. From the time I was old enough to undertsand the news, those three were the news. It's not the same watching Brian Williams and it will not be the same when Katie Couric takes over (prediction).
I was a Brokaw guy over Jennings, but he was amazing at his trade. Sad to see him go so soon.
Says: Iceman at August 8, 2005 09:04 AMhe didn't really quit smoking for 17 years. and prior to that, he was a multi-pack a day kind of guy for about 30 years.
Says: jack at August 8, 2005 11:56 AMHe didn't? I know he started really young and did 3 packs a day but the media claims he quit 17 years ago. How long was he off the sticks? Just curious, 'cause it took me about 10 years to give up a 3/4-pack-a-day habit.
Says: Nanc' at August 8, 2005 01:16 PMI was always a Brokaw guy too, but Jennings was the consummate anchor in breaking news. His work during 9/11 was truly stellar; if for no other reason, his ability to restrain emotion and remain even-keeled on the air.
I had no idea his cancer was so advanced at the time of his announcement.
