Who Needs a Baby Seat?

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are to investigate Britney Spears after pictures were taken of her driving through Malibu, California with her baby son on her lap.

Spears claimed she took off without putting her son Sean Preston in his rear babyseat because she was suddenly hounded by paparazzi during a coffee break. But the DCFS and California police officials are taking a very dim view of Spears' decision to drive off with her baby on her lap.

It is illegal under California law to drive with a child as young as Sean Preston not restrained in a recognized baby seat, and Britney can expect a $270 fine at the very least. Malibu Deputy Sheriff Mark Winn visited Spears at home yesterday afternoon, to set the wheels in motion for the DCFS investigation. Dcfs officials are refusing to comment about the investigation.

You Said

As a new mother, I can't imagine a scenario when I would drive with my son on my lap. And if you read what Spears said closely, she had PLENTY of time to put her son in his car seat before he bodyguard got in the car and she drove off. Shame Shame Shame on Spears!!

There have been several times where my young daughter sat in the lap of my wife or I during a short period of driving. There are certain instances where the extremely small liklihood of mishap is outweighed by the need to help the child in other ways. Don't get me wrong, I am not encouraging or condoning. I just understand that it can be a judgment call on some occasions.

Poor judgment, that is. Having to use a car seat for an infant even for short trips is a real pain. But even as a teenage mother I was smart enough to know that it was necessary. I can't even think of a scenario where I would hold an infant in my lap for a "short period of driving."

Please don't leech pictures from other people's hosting. It's rude and unnecessory. Your site has cost me extra hosting costs this month due to a picture you used that I was hosting.

If you really must use other people's images why not upload them to a free image hosting site such as flickr.com.
