Drew Lachey Dances to Victory

Drew Lachey danced away as the winner of "Dancing with the Stars" Sunday night.

The former 98 Degrees pop singer out-hoofed pro wrestler Stacy Keibler, thought to be the favored finalist, along with NFL great Jerry Rice, as ABC's ballroom hit wrapped its second season, airing live from Los Angeles.

The couple racked up a total score of 27 out of a perfect 30 from the three-judge panel, which, combined with their score from Thursday's pre-finale, gave them a total of 87 out of 90. But it was viewers — whose vote carried half the weight — who settled the matter. In somewhat of an upset midway through the two-hour finale, they eliminated the leggy, blonde Keibler. Then, in the program's final moments, host Tom Bergeron disclosed that Lachey was the choice over Rice.

"Woooooooooooooo!" yelped Lachey, who gratefully accepted the mirrorball trophy (which he had earlier acknowledged was "ugly").

During the program, all seven of the previously bounced celebrities — ESPN sportscaster Kenny Mayne, actress Tatum O'Neal, news personality Giselle Fernandez, rap star Master P, actress Tia Carrere, tanned ladies' man George Hamilton and talk-show host Lisa Rinna — returned for a last dance with their partners.

--As usual, Nick was there cheering his brother on.

You Said

I'm not a big fan of Stacy's but I thought her last number, a samba, was awesome.

I am a fan of Stacy's and I think it was b.s. that she was kicked off before Rice. It wasn't supposed to be a celebrity contest. It's a dance competition!! Personally, I don't think Rice should have made it to the final three at all. Lisa Rinna should have been there.

Well, I'm not a big fan of Stacy's either, but I grew to like her over the course of the show.

And EJ, it IS a celebrity contest whenever you let the audience do the voting. You think Master P deserved to hang on while Giselle was kicked off? Oh HELL no. I completely agree that Lisa was the better dancer between her and Jerry, but the public voted for Jerry. And Stacy was the better dancer between her and Jerry, but the public voted for Jerry. THAT'S why its a celeb contest.

My thoughts -
Not a fan on Stacy? Her dancing was spot on most ever time. I thought she was great. Drew and partner had wonderful chemistry together and were fun to watch. Jerry did not dance as well, but I still liked him.

Jerry Rice sucked. He was funny, just because it was Jerry Rice. His partner, a professional, carried them, unlike the other three pairs in the final four. Drew, Lisa, and Stacey all displayed true talent for being total amateurs (though Drew trained at the Cincinnati Conservatory growing up, mainly for singing, but I'm sure it contained dance training).

Says: Iceman at February 27, 2006 11:28 AM

I agree that Stacy showed the most pure talent. I'd be willing to bet most of the viewer votes came from women and, well, we know how women can be.

Pretty clear who the demographic is that watches that show. Chicks who dig boy bands. On Best Week Ever the other day, they were saying that they hoped Drew would win, because SOMEONE needed to support Nick now that he's divorced!
