Pathetic

Patricia Clarkson was conspicuously absent from the opening night for "Three Days of Rain" - because she was disinvited, Broadway sources say.

Clarkson originated the role in the Richard Greenberg drama now played by Julia Roberts. Unlike Roberts, Clarkson won rave reviews. She had planned to attend the opening last week until she got a call from director Joe Mantello, asking her to stay away. "They were worried there would be unflattering comparisons," said a source. Greenberg was said to be upset when he learned about Clarkson's ouster.

--Am I the only one not surprised Roberts didn't get good reviews? She's a movie actress--NOT a stage actress. Big difference! Very, very few can be both. Clarkson is one of them.

You Said

I don't think very few actors can be both stage and screen greats-I think there are a lot that are great in both mediums.

I do, however, think it depends on where you start. The ones you conquer both genres almost always have the theatre experience first, then they move to motion pictures.

I think it is nearly impossible to start in films or tv, become accustomed to that genre, and then successfully adjust to a live audience in theatre.

Of course, the one exception I can think of is a pretty damn big exception, and that's Angela Lansbury.

I love Patricia Clarkson. Especially in that SFU episode when her friend died. She was also great in the Station Agent.

Lawren, what else would I know her from?

"Miracle," "Good Night and Good Luck,"...did you see those?

I love her too. She was in The Green Mile with Tom Hanks and she was Frasier's girlfriend for a while and, of course, she was in The Station Agent...one of my favorite films.

Oh, and she was in "Far From Heaven" with Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid. Great movie.
