Spacey Says Stage Is His Passion

'Superman Returns' star Kevin Spacey almost quit making movies because he was sick of living in hotel rooms.

The Oscar-winning actor - who is currently artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre in London, England - says he is happier on stage than in front of a camera.

He told Britain's Observer newspaper: "I was beginning to feel I just didn't want to go through another ten years of living in hotels, making three or four movies a year. "I long for the ritual of theatre. I adore it. And I want to do plays that challenge me. The truth is that I come into this place every night, I love getting up on the stage and having an incredible company of actors to work with."

Spacey added: "My commitment here is for ten years. It will take five to establish myself and build up the audience who come and see the work. "I took six weeks out to shoot the new 'Superman' movie. That to me is the right balance. The movies are not my first priority - the theatre is."

--I think he's one of the finest actors on screen today, and ever for that matter. I'd put him up there with the Jimmy Stewarts, Tom Hankses, and DeNiros of the world. Guess I'll have to head to London if I want to see much of his acting.

You Said

I'm in total agreement with you. I hope he'll continue to do at least one film per year.
