WTF?

A nude Britney Spears on a bearskin rug while giving birth to her firstborn marks a 'first' for Pro-Life. Pop-star Britney Spears is the "ideal" model for Pro-Life and the subject of a dedication at Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn's Williamsburg gallery district, in what is proclaimed the first Pro-Life monument to birth, in April.

Dedication of the life-sized statue celebrates the recent birth of Spears' baby boy, Sean, and applauds her decision of placing family before career. "A superstar at Britney's young age having a child is rare in today's celebrity culture. This dedication honors Britney for the rarity of her choice and bravery of her decision," said gallery co-director, Lincoln Capla. The dedication includes materials provided by Manhattan Right To Life Committee.

"Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston," believed Pro-Life's first monument to the 'act of giving birth,' is purportedly an idealized depiction of Britney in delivery. Natural aspects of Spears' pregnancy, like lactiferous breasts and protruding naval, compliment a posterior view that depicts widened hips for birthing and reveals the crowning of baby Sean's head.

The monument also acknowledges the pop-diva's pin-up past by showing Spears seductively posed on all fours atop a bearskin rug with back arched, pelvis thrust upward, as she clutches the bear's ears with 'water-retentive' hands.

"Britney provides inspiration for those struggling with the 'right choice'," said artist Daniel Edwards, recipient of a 2005 Bartlebooth award from London's The Art Newspaper. "She was number one with Google last year, with good reason --- people are inspired by the beauty of a pregnant woman," said Edwards.

You Said

This is just so gross I'm speechless....

Says: Lindsay at March 24, 2006 08:25 AM

okay, I have several problems with this. but mostly - isn't kind of counter-message if a "Right to Life" monument features a rug made out of a dead animal?

Says: at March 24, 2006 08:49 AM

And the anti-abortion crowd actually thinks this helps their cause? If you are against abortion, you won't be after seeing those two together.

Says: chuck at March 24, 2006 09:21 AM

Ugh. This is NOT representative of the entire pro-life movement, I assure you.

Says: Brian B at March 24, 2006 11:10 AM

I have never seen or heard of a woman giving birth in THAT position nor with such a bony butt nor on a dead animal nor with such a peaceful expression. Good grief...I guess reality would have been too much for the "artist."

Says: Nanc' at March 24, 2006 11:57 AM

GIVE IT A BREAK!!!

Says: SHON at March 24, 2006 01:21 PM

What a pathetic attempt to try and regain her increasingly dying reputation. Anyone who acutally believes that this "art" would in some way "inspire" an individual to be pro-life, really ought to have their head examined. Pathetic, absolutely pathetic!

Says: Clara C at March 24, 2006 01:41 PM

Duh! What birth pose for Britney. She had a C-section.

Says: Sandy at March 24, 2006 01:58 PM

Where the hell does this look like Britney spears At?

Says: Christine at March 24, 2006 02:07 PM

it doesn't even look like britney, it looks more like ashley judd but thats beside the point. instead of toxic, it's quixotic.

Says: Jennifer at March 24, 2006 02:18 PM

didn't she end up having a C-section??? From crowing with Shawns head to c-section?

Says: cheryl at March 24, 2006 02:26 PM

Not only did she have a c-section, but she was so NOT attractive pregnant. Not to mention, of all mothers to honor, they honor someone who can't even find the time to place their child in a carseat?!??!?!?

Says: Joni at March 24, 2006 02:37 PM

Let me rephrase... she choose to have a c-section because she did not want to go through the PAIN of childbirth!

Says: Joni at March 24, 2006 02:42 PM

childbirth and motherhood can be a beautiful thing but this gross depiction is repulsive!! and brittney spears being held up as an example for anything other than the trash she is!! Please!!!

Says: gail at March 24, 2006 03:01 PM

Omg, she is NOT what I want to see as any type of role model.Unless you use her for the "What not to do" role model. Bet PETA loves the statue :)

Says: Fawn at March 24, 2006 03:25 PM

I've heard of getting pg in that position, but never giving birth!

Says: Lynne at March 24, 2006 03:26 PM

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen for one were talking about a right to life campaign and Britney is laying on a dead animal and here is the kicker to the whole thing she had her baby via a cesarian section because she couldnt take the pain of labor!!! She didnt have a natural birth so this whole thing is a sham!!!

Says: Mercedes at March 24, 2006 03:38 PM

I have never seen anyone give birth that way. I know you can get pregnant like that though. I don't think that bear enjoyed the experience of death so some one could give birth on his carcas.

Says: kt at March 24, 2006 03:44 PM

For the record, though not a common position, one can absolutely give birth that way and I've seen it done on more than one occasion. It's a great position for moms with heavy "back labor" and for getting blood to the baby.

THAT SAID, the "momument" is crazy and weird.

Says: Kelly at March 24, 2006 03:54 PM

If the depiction is even close to reality, I bet the expression on K Fed Jr.'s face, as he dances out of her hindquarter, is one of complete disgust.

Says: Dave at March 24, 2006 04:32 PM

Britney Spears had an ELECTED c-section because she didn't want to feel the pains of labor. So this "monument" of her is a load of CRAP. Plus it is quite a scary site isn't it?

As far as the birthing position that she is in, my friend actualy had a truly natural child birth without any drugs and she gave birth on all fours like that. She said it helped with the pain in her back. I am a mother of 3 and I said Thank God for epidurals!

Says: nikki at March 24, 2006 04:35 PM

I am both repulsed and laughing my head off at this. This is wrong on so many different levels.
Please...say no to drugs!

Says: Nisha at March 24, 2006 04:56 PM

We should all be thankful that all we can see are the front and side views.

Says: Deb at March 24, 2006 05:06 PM

Who ever chose Britney Spears for this "honor" should be seriously questioned and possibly checked for taking drugs!

Says: Tricia at March 24, 2006 05:15 PM

Whoever chose Britney Spears for this "honor" should be seriously questioned and possibly checked for taking drugs!

Says: Tricia at March 24, 2006 05:15 PM

This is a mockery of motherhood. I myself am not able to give birth, but I am a adoptive parent. I think this is disgusting and tasteless.

Says: Carrie at March 24, 2006 05:46 PM

did britney spears actually endorse this ridiculous thing? if she did, her PR person should be drawn and quartered...or better yet, forced to stare at this statue non-stop for 48 hours. EW.

Says: Cynde at March 24, 2006 06:56 PM

it doesnt even look like her, and she did have a c-section, she didnt want to feel the pain of childbirth, what a fool she is. Who in the world would honor a mother who drives with their child in the front seat with her and looks like to never hold her kid also,,,,,

Says: debra at March 24, 2006 09:14 PM

This statue represents everything that is looney tune about the pro-life movement.

Says: rad at March 24, 2006 09:28 PM

She's in a better position to deliver a huge fart than a baby.

Says: aeh at March 24, 2006 09:53 PM

this would actually be very beautiful if they had an actual celebrity that didn't use their wealth to manipulate childbirth just because. then pretend like we the people aren't smart enough to know it.... DON'T PISS ON ME AND TELL ME IT'S RAINING !!!

Says: erica at March 24, 2006 11:40 PM

I am wondering how in earth this child will be born in this position. Gravity won't help, for sure! She won't be all smiles, I bet!

Says: Marciad at March 25, 2006 07:21 AM

I find it unbelieveable that a pro life group honors Brittney. Big deal, she had a kid that she can't even take the time to feed (her nanny does it on an escalator) and she can't even put her own child in a car seat. Some stupid people should never reproduce, let alone be honored for it. Why honor a trashy mother just because she got pregnant? Why not honor someone like Nicole Kidman who ADOPTS and TAKES CARE of children? Isn't she a better representation of PRO LIFE? She took children in who were allowed to be born to bless others? What about Angelina Jolie adopting 2 children as a single mother? Isn't that a better representation of what pro lifers want? Don't pro life organizations represent themselves that every child deserves a life? These two ladies did more for that cause than Brittney has or will ever do.

Says: Lucinda at March 25, 2006 09:29 AM

I think that statue is embarrassing and stupid. She just flaunting her labor in front of millions. HEELLOOO! shes not the only one whos had a baby before

Says: Jennifer at March 25, 2006 09:30 AM

I am not a big fan of the girl, but to put her down because she "chose" a c-section is a load of crap. The monument is pretty disturbing to look at, but those that critisize a woman's preferrence of childbirth are just being petty, and small minded. Get a life, if you have the choice not to experience the pain, why do it? By the way, I have had two, not by choice and you do NOT escape having pain with a c-section. Grow up.

Says: Janae at March 25, 2006 09:33 AM

This would put you off reproduction, totally tastless

Says: Dolly at March 25, 2006 09:35 AM

She looks like a dog in heat with that tail up in the air like that. Its not like she's the only person that has ever had a baby before. I have had 2 children and that statue is nasty

Says: Jennifer at March 25, 2006 09:45 AM

Interesting to say the least. would have perhaps been better served to use an unknown preg model. Choice of c-section? Is that decision just as personal as a decision to complete a preg or not to complete one? I agree adopted mothers should be honored as much as anyone who is capable of giving birth. But I also know someone who made the decision to abort, very painful decision for her and she was against abortions. Hmmmm, the dead animal aspect of this piece of art...probably could have made a better choice of rugs...maybe a quilt made by mother's grandmother or something more tasteful to those who you wish a reaction from...Its all in the shock value I guess. As far as this piece of art changing anyone's mind on abortion...doubtful....and from reading the other comments I would say that has not been accomplished. As for the model, herself...doesnt sound like she will be getting the Mother of the Year Award this year. Ashley Judd??....yes it does resemble Ashley to a degree....to bad the artist didnt combine several differant mothers features to make 1 model....might have done better with that thought....to my opinion....after all....this is America and we all have the right to our own opinion....good , bad or indifferant....now I am going back to drinking my coffee and reading the news online.

Says: Jodee at March 25, 2006 10:08 AM

the pro-lifers have reached a new low. it's just a couple of guys hot for BritBrit and have decided to use the pro-life platform for their disturbing dreams.

Says: jamaikaneese at March 25, 2006 10:11 AM

"Britney provides inspiration for those struggling with the 'right choice',"
Hello? If this is true, lord help us! A shallow, self centered, material girl with a 'boy toy' to father her child? They are rediculous and an embarrassment to parenting. What future will these children have with parents like them?
They might as well have chosen Courteny Love instead....

Says: Gabby at March 25, 2006 10:12 AM

This is disgusting!

Says: Dee at March 25, 2006 10:14 AM

Please, I cannot believe what I am seeing!! Because alot of people, male and female, look at Brittney as "trashy", how can they take such a beautiful event and put her face on it? I think aeh's comment above said it best.....

Says: Kelly at March 25, 2006 10:16 AM

I am deeply upset by this. They only way this would "inspire" a person to make the "right" choice is if she is 15 and britney is her "idol". She had a c-section and I can affirm, that by having three myself, that she did not bypass a pain factor in any way. I think this is tasteless and just another way to save her career. I don't think she was the best choice for this. I would have rather seen Angelina. I think this is digusting and an insult to every mother.

Says: christie at March 25, 2006 10:39 AM

I barely made it through watching my wife give birth and I love her. Why the hell do I want to see this woman doing it? And I have never heard of a woman giving birth in this position. Getting pregnant, yeah, but giving birth? Give me a break.

Says: TWM at March 25, 2006 10:45 AM

Britney Spears...has inspired more young people to get breast implants and display them...then she ever will to being a model mother. Give me a break..and I wonder where the prolife support would be if the model was lets say Madonna. You people missed completely on this. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Sorry but I do not behold this as art,in any form.

Says: belle at March 25, 2006 10:48 AM

Pro Life? She was married to the "Federjerk" and wanted to get sperminated with his spawn...!

Says: countessa at March 25, 2006 10:48 AM

I'd have to agree that this is a disgusting statue and an even more disgusting choice of models.
PS
I've had a c-section and a natural childbirth...if the objective is to avoid pain, you might consider adopting (not you, Brit...for God's sake!)

Says: me at March 25, 2006 10:57 AM

That's disgusting. She's a terrible role model for any "mother" or soon to be mother. OH and her little hubby... in case anyone forgot he had someone else knocked up while he was effing the pop princess. THey must have wanted to portray how she got knocked up not gave birth. I'm glad my daughters aren't old enough to see something like this.

Says: rrr at March 25, 2006 11:00 AM

I had a c-section with my first child, not by choice, and it's not painless. I had two other children naturally, with no drugs, and it was a wonderful experiance. Britney would be the last person they should have chose. She drives with baby in her lap. This isn't an inspiration as far as I'm concerned, and neither is Britney.

Says: Caroline at March 25, 2006 11:10 AM

The article says they also acknowledges her pin up past by using the bear skin rug, what the heck does that have to do with child birth.
What message is that giving for pro-life? Go sleep around, pose for a pin up, and oh if by the way you get knocked up dont kill your baby? How stupid can one be? Dont know many mothers that give birth on bear skin rugs. I might could take the rest of it, but the rug and the article about honoring her pin up days just does it for me.

Says: Jamie at March 25, 2006 11:12 AM

Terrible choice for a model mother, I would rather see a pg Angelina than Brit. I'm pg with my 3rd and I won't be giving birth in that position, thats how I got this way in the first place :-)

Says: CCN at March 25, 2006 11:21 AM

EEWwwwwww! This is nothing but NASTY!! It does NOT inspire pro-life thinking in me -- not even the tiniest bit. It's so close to porn, it's not funny. I think it'll inspire a lot of teenage boys to think about something else! The "artist" would've been better off using a non-famous model, and picturing them with a baby and a toddler in their arms and other children around them --- leaning into them. This would show how life can be embraced. The kids should all be from different ethnic backgrounds to reflect the world. My friend cannot have children, yet she and her lifemate have adopted children from two different countries and three different ethnicities. There are many, many people out there who do that. THAT would be more reflective of pro-life. Happy Saturday, all!

Says: Tracy at March 25, 2006 11:29 AM

I believe I just saw a tv program showing a woman of possible middle-eastern culture having a baby laying across a bed with her feet hanging towards the floor. The position that Britney is in was also shown on this program. If I remember correctly, this position (statue) and the one this other woman was in is the way women in most parts of the world give birth. It supposedly causes less pain for the mom and child and both of these other positions are supposed to be 100% better than the position that women in this country give birth. Sorry I cannot be more specific, but I think if you would maybe google it, you can get a better picture and understanding than what I give. :)

Says: Teresa at March 25, 2006 11:29 AM

Everyone saying anything negotive is just jealious. GROW UP!! I'm young, and pregnant, and the thought of child birh sems painful to me too. Don't hate on her because she's young, rich, famous, blessed...get a real life. Someone having a C-section, does not make them a bad mother or any less PRO LIFE of a person. Did all of you not get epidurals, you went completely natural... no pain meds after?? As far as the car seat incident. Nobody really knows, get your heads out of star and mind your own damn business. Please, will the perfect parent cast the first stone?? All Britney's trying to do is live her life, raise her child, and have a family, not to mention be happy...She's not following your every move talking about you or worried about your parental decisions. Grow up and get lives people...

Says: Monica at March 25, 2006 12:03 PM

I appreciate the message the artist is trying to convey, but I'm afraid he missed his mark with this one!! The statue looks pornographic in nature and I can think of 100s of other celebrity women of all ages who are better suited as a role model for motherhood.
Besides, you can't help but think of who the father is!! That's a GREAT BIG EWWWWW!!!! Britney would have done better making a withdrawal from the local sperm bank!! This couple might better be used to show why you should practice safe sex and birth control!!

Says: Me at March 25, 2006 12:10 PM

The artist got what he or she wanted... ATTENTION! Why put Brit's face on it? Because it would make the news and get the artist's pro-life message out.

Obviously it worked, since we are all talking about it!

Says: Mel at March 25, 2006 12:28 PM

The Manhatttan Right to Life Committee's apparent endorsement of this "monument" is very disturbing. Let your opinons be known to them by contacting them directly! MRLC address: http://mrlclife.home.att.net/

Says: Gabby at March 25, 2006 12:42 PM

It is true that in most nations and cultures, childbirth is NOT accomplished by the mother lying on her back. In fact, lying on her back tends to slow childbirth and cause more pain. In the USA, we simply accept this position because that is the way the hospital staff tells us to lay. But in truth, this flat on the back position is used not for the mother's comfort, but for the doctor's comfort. Sad, but true... And even more sad that most people are unaware of this because if they knew, they could save themselves lots of time and discomfort by using a position more comfortable to the patient. Who is paying whom anyway? lol

That said, I find this so-called monument highly offensive and disgusting. As a mother of three daughters, I no more wish to view this Pop diva as a role model for my children than I would wish for my girls to be pregnant as teenagers.

Sadly, it seems that most people responding to this article seem to be of the opinion that if one is Pro-Life, they must be a supporter of this sort of monumental idiocy. (Pardon the pun.) Alas, we Pro-Lifers are not so ignorant as to believe that Britney Spears is ever going to persuade anyone to help our cause. We do realize she is only capable of damaging it.

Whoever came up with this completely ridiculous idea of building this 'monument' should not be allowed to ever 'help' us again as they are obviously much more capable of harming the Pro-Life movement than of helping it.

God help us!

Says: Carla at March 25, 2006 12:54 PM

BTW, you sound like you are 16.

Says: TWM at March 25, 2006 01:59 PM

Says: Ruth at March 25, 2006 03:50 PM

I'm all for a person's right to choose, but I think that people like Britney Spears should be screened before bringing life to this already tainted world.

Says: Lorilyn at March 25, 2006 04:06 PM

My daughter Cadence, born on a couch in our home at 5:31am using mid-wives, is much more inspiring for Right of life Pro life or whatever, than some woman posed on a dead animal, though if this were the case, the person would be squatting, which is the perferred method...sheesh....

Says: Johnne at March 25, 2006 04:58 PM

I don't know what hospital you gave birth in but I have yet to birth a child laying on my back. I was in a semi~ upright position for both of them...and it neither slowed nor inhibited my delivery. Both deliveries together were less then an hour, 45min for my 1st son and less then 10min for my second. I think you should do a little research before you go off spouting "facts".

Says: Renee at March 25, 2006 05:04 PM

I have a copy of the movie that Britney made called Crossroads she is crazy but also Georgous in the Movie

Says: Doug at March 25, 2006 05:23 PM

There's nothing wrong with Britney...It's only the media that brings her down and makes her seem so bad but you dont know what she or any other person's like unless you know them personally so don't go judging someone by just what you hear or see without getting the facts right.

No one's perfect but that doesn't mean they are bad parents.

Says: at March 25, 2006 06:04 PM

It is a very well done sculpture. There is nothing ugly about a pregnant woman's body, and I think the position works very well for this piece. Even if the sculptor had perverted reasons, it is obvious he was very inspired when completing this work. Seeing as how art is about putting your feelings into a physical form, I see no reason to disrespect an artist. Before critiquing something, look beyond first appearances and stop thinking logically. I had to get that out of me because I admire the sculpture, especially for its rawness.

Says: art lover at March 25, 2006 06:25 PM

Says: at March 25, 2006 06:28 PM

What the hell. This is wrong in so many ways. Britney is like any other lady. I personally didnt know people can give birth that way and then why on a bear skin rug, is the bear a symbol ? Why Brittany though ? Its a good piece of work if it was politically correct.

Says: Michelle at March 25, 2006 06:36 PM

Says: Kinkia at March 25, 2006 06:39 PM

This is such an ugly statue...But I must admit the older people in here obviously don't know what theya re talking about or didn't understand what they were reading....Blame the artist not Britney ...she in NO WAY endrosed this to save her career she probably doesn't have a clue the statue is even out there...Britney Spears as a parenting role model...UH NO GOOD!...I love her music but not her parenting skills...Many of you have said to use Angelina Jolie but she hasn't GIVEN BIRTH YET so she wouldn't be a precise candidate for what the artist is tryingt o convey...Another funny thing is that the artist tried conveying Pro Life but used a dead animal...Lets all hope he was trying to represent a FAKE dead animal. My perfect candidate for this would have been someone along the lines like Catherine Zeta Jones or someone who isn't famous at all. And yes you can give birth in that position. oh and another thing Stop critizing people for giving birth through C-Section some women are cowardly enough not to get pregnant at all in order to not feel any Pain...At least she went through with it and she isn't the only person who has chosen to give birth through C section because of the pain factor BYE

I have had 2 children, no pain meds, no epidural, totally and utterly natural,(thank you very much Monica!)my sister had a c-section, and was there for three days, i was out in 24 hrs with both boys, and went back to work as a waitress 5 days later, she had alot more pain than i ever did, so as far as less painful, i doubt it was. Brittany is her own person, she can choose what she wants, as far as a good role model, or mother, i think she does HER best, but millions of women choose life, she is not the only one, the artist would have been much better off just making it some unknown woman, then we all would not have a reason to trash talk her. as far as her riding with her son on her lap to "escape the papparazi" thats just stupid! i would never have my child esp. a small baby in a car without a seat! no, i wasnt there, but there is never an excuse for risking your childs life! anyways this pic is just disturbing to me, but i guess i dont have to look at it if i dont like it now do i?

many of these comments touch on truth and are amusing. Although I appreciate art, this is a bit over the top and a bit TOO raw. I am surprised that there is one issue that no one has touched on. Why is Brtiney being used as a model for the Pro-Life message??? She was TRYING to get pregnany so this was not some decision that she muddled though. As to whether or not to have her baby. Most women or girls that have abortions or CHOOSE not to (whether its to keep the baby or give it up for adoption) go through a very painful process in thier decision making. Shouldnt the movement have chosen a normal non-celebrity statused person who went through this experience and made the Pro-life choice? That certainly would have been more realistic & inspirational. And for Monica, I am a certainly NOT a perfect parent by any means nor do I believe such a thing exists. There are however some people that are worse parents than others and more irresponsible than others. I am a responsible & caring parent and would never make the choice to drive a vehicle without my child properly restrained. That can have a DEADLY consequence. Ask anyone who has a lost a child in a car accident. I hope you take that to heart and act responsibly with your child. Even is Britney felt threatened by the photogs, I seriously doubt they would have killed her child but her actions certainly COULD have. And dont kid yourself regarding everyone talking about her, she obviously loves it or she would stop doing all the outrageous things that call this kind of attention to herself.

A good friend of mine had her 1st baby by c-section b/c there was a problem. Her 2nd pegnancy was with twins. she carried them almost to full term but she started contractions too early. they tried to stop her labor but unfortunately neither of her babies survived. After 7/12 months of pregnancy, and knowing both of her babies were going to be born dead, she STILL had to deliver naturally. The doctors REFUSED to give her a c-section. they claimed the risk of infection was greater and she would be better off without it.

I agree with most of you when I say that Britney is not what I hoped a "role model" would be. I don't think her a hero or brave. she did not give birth but had her baby removed for vanities sake. Mothers..how many of you had doctors that GAVE you the the OPTION of c-section? they only do it if they have to.....or unless you can pay for it.
perhaps we should consider this.....what if they chose britney not for her "role model" behavior, but because 1/3 of the US population can relate to at least part of her situation?
1)she is a working mom
2)she has a baby with a guy that already has 2 with a different girl
3)baby's daddy thinks workin momma should give him money...while he says he is going to get a job
4)she thinks having another baby will fix her relationship and make it stronger...
give her a 6-pack of budwiser, carton of smokes, turn on the race and your looking at the average lower to lower/middle class american.

I could keep going but so can the rest of you.

I hope you can understand why I don't think that a girl as spoiled and vain as she is could even be considered as a candidate for this monument.

I have read most fo the comments, and can agress with 100% of the ones I read. Yet no one has mentioned this little factoid: doesnt Britney SMOKE. Very honering indeed to an unborn or newborn child.

Says: Jerry at March 25, 2006 08:59 PM

Wow a pro life monument w/ a bear skin rug.Who'd a thunk it?HAHA!This artist must be a complete jackass.i don't see how this remotely looks like mrs.f but i enjoy the comical sculpture because it definately made me laugh out loud.

Says: at March 25, 2006 09:00 PM

This is completely disgusting. I don't care what Brit does with her life or time. However, when she puts her son in danger by not securing him in a car seat, she is not being a good mother. All mothers out there know that there isn't any possible reason, including papparazi, to put your child in harm's way. Their safety always comes first! Horrible choice of someone to honor.

Says: Kristi at March 25, 2006 09:24 PM

People need to mind their own business. What someone does as a parent is up to them. It's not up to anyone to judge because of a different style of parenting. I can almost bet that anyone that is a parent has done something equally stupid, or something that might have put their child in danger at some point, then thought about it later. People need to mind their own business. If Brittney were not famous, nothing would be said about her parenting style or her decision to have a c-section. I am a mother of 5,all of them natural. Dr.'s anymore are giving mothers the option of c-section or natural, and most are choosing c-section for whatever their reasons are. As far as the statue, it's extremely distasteful.

Says: Brandi at March 25, 2006 09:51 PM

This is wrong in so many, many, many ways. I can think of no worse role model for childbirth and parenting than this woman. I am completely repulsed and I think my retina's are bleeding.

Says: Kate at March 25, 2006 09:58 PM

You have GOT to be KIDDING! That is NOT a position in which birth is given, it is the position in which to GET WITH child. With gravity working against her , no wonder she needed that c-section. And a bear rug? I suppose it was a polar bear! Ever watch a birth?! Is the sculpture in COLOR?! And, how about the REAR view of the sculpure. I'ld LOVE to see what THAT looks like. As a nurse, and witnes to several births, I can only imagine the detail? How Life like is it? Did Britney pose for it?

Says: Linda at March 25, 2006 10:24 PM

Give Her A Break everytime something Come up About Being pregnant her name Is In It you Guys need To Leave Her alone. It does not matter How she has Her Childern.just Be thankful she has The Money To Take Good care Of Them

Says: Michell at March 25, 2006 10:49 PM

since when do pro-lifers ride around in an automobile unbelted with their baby in their lap. This woman appears to be brain dead to me.

Says: at March 26, 2006 01:52 AM

I think that the statue is demeaning for the wonderful occasion of childbirth. I wish that the artist would have chosen someone else tobe
the model. I think we saw enough of Britneys body while she was pregnant, that we shouldn't have had this thrown in our faces. The beautiful occasion of childbirth should not be distorted like this. It is an insult to the ones of us who could not have children for what ever reason.

Says: at March 26, 2006 03:16 AM

That's the position I do to relieve myself of gas pain! I hope nobody was behind her! Total explosion!

Says: Gay at March 26, 2006 04:25 AM

Once again, La Spears has to do something to out Madonna Madonna. Birth is a beautiful and natural thing, so why does she have to make a spectacle about something that is supposed to be natural? Next childbirth will probably be videod for MTV!

Says: Karen at March 26, 2006 07:46 AM

Britney had a c-section, women do give birth in this position sometimes. I had birth naturally without drugs 16 years ago, and lost a baby boy at 6 months 11 years ago, and had to carry him and give birth. I don;t understand these peoples statement with this statute!!!! They need to get all thier facts right first before they do something like this!!!

Says: Jamie at March 26, 2006 08:47 AM

This is absurd. Giving birth in that position is counter productive to the birthing process; it makes the baby travel "uphill" to be delivered as opposed to taking advantage of gravity. Secondly, Britney Spears gave birth on her back while surgeons delivered her baby by way of a C-section, probably using a bikini incision to boot! Whose agenda is this attempting to further?!

Says: Laura at March 26, 2006 10:04 AM

MMMmmm. Yeh, it makes sense to immortalize a child pop star who spent most of her pre-partum days drinking, smoking, gyrating and hanging out with loser guys who fathered other kids (remember the 24 hr husband, too?). Let's not forget her extravagant spending on worthless material things, driving with her 5 month old her lap, public drunken weekends in Vegas, chasing the parasitic partying husband and getting pregnant again to keep him. Yeh, I can see how this would encourage adoption instead of abortion---NOT!! This is a preggy porn statue, plain and simple. The "artist" accomplished one thing--he or she is going to get fantastic publicity!

Says: Andrea at March 26, 2006 11:27 AM

I am 6 months pregnant, and this still does nothing for me. It is absolutely disgusting. Not my kind of art for sure. Besides, couldn't they have at least chosen a person that can take the time to put their child in a safety seat!

Says: Randa at March 26, 2006 11:38 AM

I am repulsed and in total shock that anyone would see Brit as a role model for anything, using HER ! to honor anything is wrong, There are so many of us women who have given birth( I myself gave birth to 4 beautiful girls)and I also sure as shinola did not hunker down on all 4's on a bearskin rug to do it. When Brit first came out she was an "innocent" teenager who at the time I thought was a good role model for my young girls, then she wanted a bigger audience so she became a tramp, nice way to rip decency out from under a young impressionable crowd of girls, and she went downhill from there, BUT to honor her giving birth!! PLEASE!! the whole thing is wrong on so many levels

Says: Krystena at March 26, 2006 01:00 PM

White trash, drives baby on lap, mistress with a man who had a pregnant girlfriend, dumb enough not to be able to "get it" that he only took her for her money and insured his future by having another kid with her. If I was her sister, friend, aunt, cousin, father, brother, friend, niece, uncle, grandmother, grandfather especially her mother, I would be EMBARRASSED to know even know her.

Says: Vicki at March 26, 2006 04:54 PM

she is gross. she is stupid. she is white trash. she is NOT a role model for anything this world has to offer unless it's how to steal a man with no regard, lose your integrity and flaunt it like a total idiot, and have no morals.

Says: vle at March 26, 2006 04:59 PM

Says: sassy at March 26, 2006 06:16 PM

It is a very sexual sculpture. Don't follow the logic of making it a prolife statement. Especially when you see the pics of B. Spears and baby behing a steering wheel.

Says: chris at March 26, 2006 06:52 PM

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Disgusting and typical of pro-life hypocrisy: the baby has a right to life, but not the bear. If Spears is a role model for anything, it's that a screwed up situation is made worse by having a kid, not better.

Says: G. Kirk at March 26, 2006 07:03 PM

Someone above asked why pro-lifers don't honor adoptive parents.

Simple. Once the baby is born, they don't give a rat's ass. They only care about making you have the kid.

Once you do they don't care what happens to it.

Says: deb at March 26, 2006 07:53 PM

Ok. Why would a woman opt to c-section? Because they are whimps. Cry babies, who can't be put off by the natural pain involved in giving birth. How do I know, I've done it. I gave natural birth. I did what women have done forever. It sucked but I am a better woman for it. So all you prissy whimps can eat my dust. Have another sleeping pill while your at it.

Says: at March 26, 2006 08:04 PM

Oh my god..that is completely rediculous..she had a C-section..The pro-life people are out of their bloody minds..why don't they pick a girl who's having a hard time with life, not able to afford a baby, but has one any way? That b!tch is rich as hell, that's just bullshyte.

Says: Tana at March 26, 2006 09:35 PM

Says: laura at March 27, 2006 07:34 AM

Britney WHO did WHAT on
a bearskin rug? Can't buy that kind of publicity. Fits several demographics.. even porn.

Says: Al at March 27, 2006 08:46 AM

first of all, i have never written in to one of these things; so, you know something has to be very repulsive to make me start tapping away at keys. second, britney spears should not be "honored" for anything. she is the BIGGEST piece of trash to come out of the south. i am from mississippi and happily so, knowing that she was raised "next door". she was not a beautiful pregnant woman, her marriage is a joke, and lastly.... DIDN'T SHE HAVE A C-SECTION? that artist really knows is muse........
so sad, she will do anything for publicity :(

Says: les at March 27, 2006 10:51 AM

I HAVE to say that this is rediculous, especially seeing how she opted to have a c-sec just to get out of the pain of giving birth! Second of all, look at all of the rediculous things she's already done with this child, driving with him on her LAP, changing him on the table at a resturant, I just dont see why anyone would want to honer her when there are many more honerable celebrities and NON celebrity mothers out there!

Says: Grip Time at March 27, 2006 11:55 PM

Um, guys? It's ironic. The artist is making fun of pro-lifers by not-so-subtly pointing out what a mistake it is to let certain people breed.

Read between the lines, folks. It ain't rocket science.

I can't stop laughing, actually. It's brilliantly subversive, as evidenced by all this discussion. Bravo to the artist.

Says: Negranil at March 29, 2006 08:21 AM

Just so EVERYONE knows, Britney never indorsed this statue. The artist blantantly says in his interview that he had never spoke to her and had never seen her in person. All the artist (daniel) did was look off of britney's pictures and articles that were available to him to make the sculpture. So this "peice of art", which personally I find just too much for anything that is presented to the public, was not intended for Britney to "save her career". Some comments that were posted are really very horrible speaking like it is all a scam to get attention. Yes, in fact Britney had a c-section. The artist clearly didn't read this about her or just didn't want to show the c-section view if he knew about it. I really think the face and body looks more like ashley judd than britney too!

Overall, this peice of ART is art and its free representation. I give credit to the artist to even sculpt something as scary as this is. On the other hand, there are some things that just shouldn't be seen for everyone to view and Britney's rear end with SEAN'S HEAD CROWNING OUT OF IT it not what is acceptable or tolerable. UGGGHhhh!! BRitney is GOING TO HATE THIS when she sees it. that's all i have to say.

Says: christine* at March 29, 2006 08:59 PM

i dont care if she had a c-section or weather she gained a bit of weight while she was pregnant it still is beautiful sculpture either way all pregnant women are georgous and birth is a NATURAL thing why are people upset about something that is a natural thing i give props to the artist and the subjects i think it wonderful and a beautiful part of life

Says: amanda at March 30, 2006 12:21 AM

Lame, lame, lame. Pro-life? I've heard NOTHING pro-life about the statue... just a bunch of men saying they want to hit that, and begging for a rear view.
As for Britney herself, I too feel she was a poor choice for the model of a supposedly "pro-life" statue... between the choosing a c-section because she was scared of the pain, to her poor parenting to this point. Just sad.

Says: Amy at March 30, 2006 11:45 AM

No, she did a C-section to keep her vagina nice & tight because essentially, who wants a sloppy vagina?

Britney rocks. All women should look so tasty.
