Mommy Dearest

"My daughter one day decided that she wasn't speaking to my husband, myself and my son, and that's how it's continued for the last, oh gosh, four or five years. And it was sad, that's what killed my husband, actually. He just didn't want to live after that. He had just done everything he could possibly do for his daughter, and she wanted no part of him once he couldn't do anything for her."

--Candy Spelling

Ummm...really nice, Mom. Do you think it had anything to do with the fact that Aaron Spelling was 83 when he died? I'm just sayin'.

Slumdog News

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle and the trust he set up have bought a new home for one of the child stars of his Oscar-winning movie.

The filmmaker, who is currently in Mumbai, has told Azharuddin Ismail, 9, he will be re-housed after his family was made to leave the slums. Boyle, who has been criticized for not helping the child actors enough, blamed the press for raising expectations. "Inevitably, the tension and pressure is media generated," he said.

He said he hoped a new home would also be found for Rubina Ali, who played Latika, before the monsoon rains in June. "They were given access to a world, an extraordinary and glamorous world, and they understandably want their lives to be completely transformed," he said.

Soon after the movie was finished, Boyle and producer Christian Colson set up the Jai Ho trust, which was aimed to help the children financially until they turned 18. "The homes are a concern. That is one of the reasons why we built the trust," Boyle said. "We have been trying to accelerate the process of re-housing the families, and one of the reasons we set up the trust is to deal with emergencies like this," said Colson.

A director for the trust said the apartment for Ismail, who played the young Salim, was "comfortable, in a good neighbourhood [and] near his school". In February, the state housing authority said it would give the two children apartments, but the families had not heard from them, said Ali's father Rafiq Qureshi.

Earlier this month, the authorities tore the children's slum homes down. Since then Rubina has been staying with relatives and Azhar was living in a makeshift shanty with his parents.

Disgusting

Some sleazebag hiding behind the phony name of "Mickey the Monkey" is peddling a grainy, unauthorized video of the John F. Kennedy-Carolyn Bessette wedding. A Web site offers footage of the ultra-private event -- held on Cumberland Island, Ga., in 1996 -- for $9.99. Stills on the site show the lovebirds hugging and cutting the wedding cake. The video sale seems timed to exploit the 10th anniversary of the July 16, 1999, plane crash that killed the couple.

Only one photo of the wedding was ever officially released. The site trumpets: "The best the paparazzi could do was hover a helicopter high above the island. Now for the first time you'll be in the small church where only the closest of family and friends had invitations."

Harris is Broadway Bound

Samantha Harris -- star of "Dancing With the Stars" and "The Insider" -- is coming to Broadway.

Harris is taking on the role of Roxie Hart in "Chicago" for six weeks starting July 7. Harris, who has a musical theater background and once toured with Monty Python's Eric Idle, tells us she won't fall prey to anything like Jeremy Piven's "mercury poisoning" while at work. "I would have to be on my deathbed to miss a show," she promises. "I am so ecstatic. I'm from a theater family -- I know how hard [Broadway actors] work." She'll keep her day job hosting "The Insider."

This'll Be Interesting

With Amy Winehouse, it's not just complicated. It's extremely complicated.

Soon the world will find out just how much so as the troubled 25-year-old singer and her family open themselves up to Israeli-American interviewer Daphne Barak for a documentary shot at Winehouse's retreat on the island of St. Lucia, according to a post on her MySpace blog.

Barak recently spent time with Winehouse and her father Mitch for what the singer's blog calls "a truthful and revealing look at her complicated life." Footage and photos posted on Barak's own Web site show Winehouse in the studio and hosting a birthday party, as well as a brief interview with Mitch, who explains how the Caribbean island has been a welcome getaway for his daughter during her public struggles with sobriety and fame.

The documentary is expected to be released later this year.

Madonna Who?

Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez seems to have traded in a vintage Madonna for a Kate Hudson.

The blonde, Los Angeles-born actress -- who met A-Rod at the reopening of the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach last November -- was photographed at Friday's game, cheering on the Bronx Bombers at the new Yankee Stadium.

But the real action came later that night at Mustang Grill on Second Avenue. Our source said a bartender at the Southwestern joint at 85th Street "was asking patrons not to go in the back room around 1 a.m. because A-Rod and Kate Hudson were back there making out." One staffer at the restaurant confirmed the two were there celebrating the Yanks' win against the Minnesota Twins.

"Yes, they were here together," the server told us, although she did not witness any lip-lock herself. Another source said the two were spotted over the weekend outside the glamorous 15 Central Park West, where A-Rod rents an apartment.

In January, A-Rod and Hudson had dinner with a group of friends at Lure Fishbar and then went for drinks at the Rose Bar in the Gramercy Park Hotel.

Who Would You Choose?

Martin Scorcese is about to begin work on a splashy big-budget biopic of Frank Sinatra's life and the word on the street is that many stars are begging for the role.

Everybody thinks Martin is going to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as Sinatra. But a source told Page Six that it doesn't seem likely, because Leo looks nothing like Sinatra. According to the source, Marty has narrowed it down to a few names including Johnny Depp and James Franco. Other stars in consideration are Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Connick Jr. , Jon Hamm, Michael Buble, Marky Mark and Justin Timberlake.

My picks are Harry Connick Jr. or Jon Hamm.

Cynthia Nixon Engaged

Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to girlfriend Christine Marinoni on Sunday at a rally for gay marriage, a source on the scene said.

According to the source, the “Sex and The City” star told the crowd at the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in New York City that she became engaged last month. Actors Kristin Davis, David Hyde Pierce and Audra McDonald were also scheduled to appear at the event, which was organized by the theater community to support New York Governor David Paterson’s proposed bill granting legal equality to same-sex unions.

Nixon began dating Marinoni in 2003 after splitting with husband Danny Mozes, with whom she has two children, Samantha and Charles.

Jon and Kate Plus Infidelity

For my one reader who actually cares about these people:

Jon and Kate Gosselin's marriage is done, her brother, Kevin Krieder, says in an explosive new interview. "Six month ago, Kate came to Jon and said, 'Hey, it's over," Krieder, 32, tells RadarOnline.com -- confirming a similar sentiment a source told Us Weekly in our newest issue, on stands now.

Krieder also reiterates Jon's fears that his wife of nearly 10 years was having an affair with her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, as exclusively reported by Us. (Kate has confessed she and Jon might split in the same interview she says she is "horrified" by any allegations suggesting she and Neild are romantically involved; TLC refused comment.)

"Jon came to our door one day and told [Krieder's wife] Jodi he suspects it's Steve the bodyguard, and he feels that he's getting the bad rap," Krieder says. "He feels that Kate's not being faithful either."

A source tells the newest issue of Us Weekly that Kate and Neild (who flew to a promotional appearance in Michigan together last night from Maryland) have a "very physical" relationship. At a recent public appearance, "she was gently poking him, giving him little love pats, totally unlike the slapping she does with Jon. She and Steve were joking around so much, I actually wondered if they were having an affair," the source goes on.

Continues Krieder: "Although Jon has made some poor choices lately, he suspects that...Kate has been unfaithful. It's a horrible thing to talk about, but it just paints how bad and how different reality is from the reality show."

Farrow Ends Hunger Strike

Mia Farrow has ended her hunger strike after 12 days. Farrow, 64, had been subsisting on a liquid diet since April 27 to raise more awareness for the Darfur humanitarian crisis.

"I have been instructed by my doctor to stop my fast immediately due to health concerns -- including possible seizures," she tells Entertainment Tonight. "I am fortunate. The women, children, and men I am fasting for do not have this option." "When I began this fast twelve days ago," Farrow continues, "I hoped another would take my place, and another, and another, until the expelled humanitarian agencies are readmitted and finally there can be justice and peace for the people of Darfur. Richard Branson has stepped forward and so I have ended this fast."

Branson -- the 58-year-old British founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways—and the Virgin record label and music store chain -- said he is "honored" to be taking over the fast for the next three days. "Over a year-and-a-half ago, I traveled to Darfur and was horrified by the stories that people of all ages shared with us," he said. "Now, with 13 aid organizations expelled from the country, over one million people are at grave risk. We cannot stand and watch as one million people suffer. We all need to stand up and demand that international aid is restored and that the people of Darfur are protected and given the chance to live in peace."

Liam Speaks

In his first public speaking appearance since his wife Natasha Richardson's tragic death, Liam Neeson quoted poet Paul Muldoon to describe how art helps heal the heart. Neeson -- who left the college before graduating -- received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Queens University Belfast, at the British Consulate in NYC on Wednesday.

He told students that art "builds from pain, from misery, from a deep-seated hurt, a monument to the human heart that shines like a golden dome among roofs rain-glazed and leaden," according to Irish Central. The actor -- whose two sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12, sat closest to the podium -- appeared nervous at first when he got behind the podium. "Everybody assumes that actors are great public speakers," he said. "It’s terrifying. Forgive me for reading it."

But he made it through his speech, sharing with students one of the most valuable lessons he learned from school. "I think it is a message that a university always gives its students in the end: It’s time to move on, get on with your life," he said. "I got on with mine, and I'm still getting on."

Kiefer's a Drunken Idiot Again

Kiefer Sutherland might be spending too much time playing head-busting counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer.

At an after-party for the Met Costume Institute gala at Submercer on Monday, the star of "24" got into an argument with fashion label Proenza Schouler co-founder Jack McCollough which ended with the macho actor head-butting the flamboyant designer and breaking his nose.

The night-life blog Guest of a Guest reported the argument stemmed from a conversation Sutherland was having with actress Brooke Shields, though no further details were provided. (All three were at the gala earlier in the evening.) McCollough reportedly spent the night in the hospital.

Sources said McCollough filed a complaint with cops that night. Socialite-cum-writer Derek Blasberg, who hooked up with McCollough when he was working as an assistant at Vogue in 2005, alluded to the incident on Twitter, but deleted his account shortly after posting it.

According to one eyewitness account, "Sutherland was really drunk and he got accidentally bumped by McCollough. They started arguing and then he just head-butted him."

A spy who had spotted Sutherland earlier in the evening at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Rose Bar said, "He was running around wearing a giant feather boa and acting totally crazy. He was dancing feverishly and twirling people around all over the place. He seemed to be quite intoxicated."

This isn't the first time that Sutherland has been at the center of a public disturbance. In 2007, a visibly intoxicated Sutherland took a flying leap and tackled a Christmas tree in the lobby of a hotel -- footage of which eventually surfaced on YouTube. Sutherland has also twice been arrested on charges of DUI.

A rep for Sutherland did not respond to multiple requests for comment. A rep for McCollough declined to comment on the matter as well.

Swine Flu Chic

Only Katy Perry could find just the right bling for a global pandemic.

"Since swine flu is super trendy I wanted to make sure I was in style with my swine flu ring!" the "I Kissed a Girl" singer writes on her blog. "I got this one in Miami at Big Drop the other day ... a flying piggy."

And if that's not silly enough, Perry relates a conversation about the swine flu she had with her cat (yes, her cat), whom she's named Kitty Purry.

"Kitty Purry was telling me the other night that she remembers when bird flu was in and now pig flu is cool and she wonders when kitty flu is gonna hit," writes Perry, "as she would like to be more popular than she currently already is. Fame whore."

Another Talk Show

The outspoken Jenny McCarthy is joining forces with TV's queen of talk, Oprah Winfrey – for, among other projects, her own talk show.

For starters, according to the Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy, 36, has already launched her own blog on Oprah.com. Friday's entry concerned PMS and sugar. The trade paper likens McCarthy's chances to break through to those others who previously have aligned with Winfrey, including Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil.

McCarthy has already been a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, discussing, among other topics, how she took on the medical establishment to deal with her son Evan's autism.

Coming Out

After years of rumors, Top Gun star Kelly McGillis wants to set the record straight: Yes, she's gay. Asked by lesbian website Shewire.com if she was looking to date a man or woman, the single star, 51, said, "Definitely a woman. I'm done with the man thing."

McGillis -- who is twice divorced and has two teenage daughters -- said coming to terms with her sexuality was "an ongoing process from the time I was probably 12." "It was a long, arduous journey for me," she went on. "I had a lot of things happen that convinced me that God was punishing me because I was gay. That was a hard process."

"Life is a freaking journey. and it's about growing and changing and coming to terms with who and what you are and loving who you are," added the actress, who had a guest role on Showtime's lesbian drama The L Word last year.

At 51, McGillis says, "I'm starting my life in a whole different phase." "I love acting," she said, "but I don't want to do it at the point of losing who I really am." Proof: She won't even dye her hair! Says the actress, "Whenever I get an offer, they ask me to dye my hair, and I just won't."
